Instructions to the Applicant
The information you provide in this application will be used in the background investigation to assist in determining your suitability for the position of San Andreas Peace Officer, in accordance with POST Commission Regulation 1953.
Disqualification
There are very few automatic bases for rejection. Even issues of prior misconduct, such as prior illegal drug use, driving under the influence, theft, or even arrest or conviction are usually not, in and of themselves, automatically disqualifying. However, deliberate misstatements or omissions can and often will result in your application being rejected, regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatements/omissions. In fact, the number one reason individuals “fail†background investigations is because they deliberately withhold or misrepresent job-relevant information from their prospective employer.

- Darion Curry, a 23-year-old male, was born and raised in, Davis, a tough neighborhood where the struggles of urban life was a daily reality. Born to a mixed-race couple – his African American mother, who worked tirelessly to make ends meet, and his Caucasian father, who unfortunately wasn't present in his life. Darion grew up navigating the challenges of the inner city. Despite the obstacles, Darion developed a strong sense of community and a desire to bring positive change to the place he calls home.
Growing up in the hood, Darion faced adversity from an early age. Limited economic opportunities, inadequate schools, and the prevalence of crime presented constant obstacles. Despite the hardships, Darion's mother instilled in him the importance of education as a mean to break the cycle of poverty. Driven by a determination to make a difference, Darion excelled in school and earned a scholarship that enabled him to pursue higher education. He chose to study Criminal Justice with a focus on community policing. Through his studies, Darion gained a deeper understanding of the systemic issues affecting urban communities and developed a passion for promoting justice and equality.
Darion has always been drawn to helping others, and his experiences in the hood have shaped his unique perspective on law enforcement. He is a skilled communicator, fluent in the English language and understands the culture of his community, which sets him apart as someone who can effectively navigate the challenges of community policing. While pursuing his degree, Darion remained actively involved in community initiatives. He volunteered at local youth centers, mentored at-risk youth, and participated in neighborhood watch programs. Darion’s goal was not only to uplift his community but also to build trust between residents and law enforcement. Darion faced skepticism from some members of his community who viewed law enforcement with mistrust. Yet, he remained resilient, understanding the importance of representation within the police force and the potential for positive change. Now having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Darion is determined to join the police/sheriff's department and work towards building stronger, more positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. He envisions a future where officers are seen as allies, working collaboratively to address the root causes of crime and promote community well-being.
Darion’s story is about navigating the complexities of identity, community, and a desire to bring positive change within the criminal justice system. His journey will reflect the challenges and opportunities that will arise when an individual from a marginalised background seeks to make a difference within the system.
