Recruitment Process for Sworn Employees
FIRST PHASE - APPLICATION FOR SWORN EMPLOYMENT
The first phase of the Los Santos Sheriff's Department's Recruitment Process is the Application for Sworn Employment.
After an application has been submitted, candidates are evaluated based upon their ability to meet the basic eligibility requirements of the position. Should there be any disqualifying conditions, a candidate is removed from the recruitment process.
SECOND PHASE - SUPPLEMENTARY QUESTIONS
After a preliminary criminal records check has been conducted to ensure a candidate is eligible for a sworn position, the candidate will be sent a supplementary questionnaire to establish previous experience and competitiveness for the position. As there are a number of applicants, candidates are rated based upon life experience and experiences relevant to a law enforcement background.
(( This phase includes a rigorous OOC mindset test used to establish a player's motive in joining the faction and their mannerisms/style of roleplay. As our faction's goal is to provide an environment conducive to good roleplay for all players, players who have the wrong mindset will be weeded out through this questionnaire. ))
THIRD PHASE - ORAL INTERVIEW
After supplementary questions have been answered to a satisfactory degree, the candidate moves on to an oral interview with a recruitment deputy or oral board. A candidate is questioned extensively to determine their motives, career aspirations, and communication skills.
FOURTH PHASE - ACADEMY PREPARATION
This phase involves a thorough medical and psychological examination for every candidate to determine their suitability for a sworn law enforcement position. This phase includes document intake, the background investigation, and administrative review, and pre-academy consultation. A physical fitness test also occurs.
(( This phase happens "off-map." While your character would in fact do all of these things on an IC basis, this is not a step we portray. ))
FIFTH PHASE - ACADEMY
After a candidate has passed through the supplementary materials, oral interview, and academy preparation, a candidate is invited to attend the Los Santos Sheriff's Department Academy as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee.
The academy is a 22 week long process. Candidates must commute to academy training. Academy training includes custody management, department policy and procedure, emergency vehicle operations, state certifications, and beyond. Candidates spend more than 700 hours throughout the academy.
(( The academy is two sessions. Generally, as it is unrealistic to say an academy lasts literally only a handful of hours, we try to capture the most important aspects of the academy through the process. ))
