Melissa "Mel" Rhodes grew up in Dutchess County with a small family, she wasn't outgoing as during the early stage of her life, only when she reached high school she finally was outgoing enough to form a small collective group of friends who she trusts to this very day. Her father was a former marine who was ultimately discharged due to medical reasons after a tour in Afghanistan in 2008 and her mother was a military spouse who spent most of her time cheating on her husband with a few associates around the local neighborhood, he'd never find out until the divorce that she was cheating.

Melissa's tenure at the high school was nothing special, she didn't hit any outstanding grades or was top of the books, she was just a typical average student who kept to herself and her circle of close friends. She was not a troublemaker by any means, but she knew how to press some people's buttons and find it too great amusement to herself, a trait that she keeps to this very day.

It was time for Melissa to move onto the thing that she did enjoy especially, writing and talking. She enrolled at Dutchess Community College, despite her parent's wishes to go into the military service, leaving her to do it herself. Melissa had to move away from her friends and family to focus solely on university which sent her into an emotional state for the early phase of college. The sadness of missing her parents and her high school friends did impact her early education in the University. Despite the mounting bills and high costs, she pushed on through the years, knuckling down and studying hard, at great last she found success, passing her bachelor's. During the graduation, her parents never attended, yet her old friends did, something which remains on Melissa's mind to this day, slowly growing a strong hatred towards her mother especially.

After the joys of college and the mounting bills ringing around her ears, Melissa found employment at the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office as a Public Information Officer, during her 5 years serving as a PIO, Melissa liaised with the local media, the civilians during events and plenty of press releases for OIC's (Officer Involved Shootings). After 5 years at the Sheriff's Office, Melissa and some of the other PIOs were called into a meeting, the meeting announced they were being laid off due to budget cuts. Melissa took the rest of the year off and took a break, spending time with her cat, before picking up and moving on from New York to find a new adventure for both of them.
